Culinary Applications

• Jasmine rice can be served as a side, either plain steamed rice to accompany curries, like this Thai Green Curry with Shrimp, or infused with other flavors or herbs. Jasmine rice is also used to make rice-based dishes such as pilaf or fried rice.

Preparation and Cooking Instructions

• Stovetop: 1. Add 1 cup of rice and 2 cups of water to a saucepan. Add 2 tsp of margarine (optional) and bring to a boil. 2. Lower heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until all the water is absorbed. 3. Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes. 4. Fluff with a fork before serving. • Microwave Oven: 1. Place 1 cup of Rice in a deep casserole dish or bowl. 2. Add 2 cups of boiling water and 2 tsp of margarine (optional). 3. Cover with a lid and cook on high for 10 minutes. 4. Remove from microwave and let stand for 5 minutes. 5. Fluff with a fork before serving. • Tips: 1. Gor best cooking and better texture, always wash and rinse the rice at least 3 times, then soak rice for around 15 minutes at room temperature. 2. For softer rice, increase water and simmer longer. 3. For firmer rice, reduce water and simmer for less time. • Note: one cup of uncooked rice yields approximately 3 cups of cooked rice. Cooking times vary depending on the appliances used.
